The Eighth and Final Square

with courage face the thing you fear so the pawn becomes the queen

She LOVES ballet!

She LOVES ballet!

When Ari was a baby, one one of the desperate nights of trying to get her to sleep, I wanted to sing her a lullaby but I had forgotten the words to Brahms’ Lullaby. So I did the only sensible thing I could do and made up new words. A few weeks ago, Scottie thought up more lyrics, so I wrote the first verse and he wrote the second and third.

Go to sleep, go to sleep,

Close your eyes so tightly.

I will hold you in my arms,

You’ll be safe and warm.

I will always love you,

My Ari Grace,

I will always love you,

My Ariadne.

Go to sleep, go to sleep,

Drift on lullaby currents

While you drowse in my embrace,

My beloved Ari Grace.

Shining stars, gentle moon

Guard your warm, quiet room

Shining stars, gentle moon

Know that sleep will come soon.

Go to sleep, go to sleep,

Dream of cloud-castle ventures

While you slumber on my breast,

Deeply, peacefully, you’ll rest.

Sleep sound, sleep sweet

Rest your head, rest your feet.

Sleep sound, sleep sweet

‘Till the morning you greet.
