So…I’m a little late to the party, but we JUST saw Frozen (thanks to our awesome Dish setup). I’ve seen all sorts of opinions on this movie, from “omg, so stupid, if I hear “Let It Go” one more time I’m going to go batshit!” to “omg, I love it!!” I’ve read some of the negative reviews, and I only have one thing to say…let it go. (Sorry, couldn’t help myself. 😀 ) It’s a kid’s movie. All of the Disney kids movies have inconsistencies and stuff. Either we can be cynical and nitpicky, or we can shut up and enjoy the movie.
I enjoyed the movie.
Along with Tangled, this is another movie that really resonates with those of us who grew up in religious cults. We were told to be the good girls (and boys), we were forced to “conceal, don’t feel” and pumped full of fear so we would stay under their control. We weren’t allowed to be who we were, we had to shut away our thoughts and feelings and even shun certain people our parents deemed ungodly. When we were finally free, if we had known the song, we would have sung “Let It Go”. It was amazing to finally be ourselves.
I actually JUST read a review of the “Let It Go” song, which of course was negative, saying basically that if you take the song out of the movie, it’s encouraging rebellion and irresponsibility. Well jeez, what about “Kiss the Girl” from Little Mermaid?? Doesn’t that promote kissing girls??
I don’t know why so many adults are obsessed over criticizing this movie. If you don’t like the movie, it’s not that big of a deal. It’s a fun, funny, heartwarming story about two sisters (incidentally, my sister and I have very similar names!) who learn to accept themselves and learn what true love is. Any other meaning you derive from it is your perception. For us escapees, the movie is positive and resonates with our struggles and eventual path to freedom.
